VA students with Hunger Baby artwork.Visual Art - Within a professional visual arts studio environment, students will explore a variety of fundamental artistic processes. All art majors will work to build a balanced portfolio, acceptable for admission to the nation’s top art colleges. In the program students will have the opportunity to showcase their work in professional gallery spaces. Upon entering the program, students will take Fundamentals of Art I: 3-D Design and Fundamentals of Art II: 2-D Design. These foundation courses, designed specifically for magnet students, will cover in-depth investigations in studio problems, as well as aesthetics, criticism, and history. Students will begin building portfolios, which will include examples of drawings, paintings, printmaking, photography, graphic design, and sculpture. A broad visual arts education will be stressed; at the same time that growth of the individual’s specific interests is encouraged. For course offerings
