Literary Arts hosts USC's Split P Soup Poetry Writing Workshop and has ties with the South Carolina Poetry Initiative. Some of our states' best writers work with our students. A PCA Journal of student work is published annually. Most students begin writing careers at this age, so our faculty provides an environment in which extensive writing and critiquing are routine. The PCA Literary Arts program is the only writing-intensive program in Richland School District Two and provides opportunities for collaboration in art areas and academic disciplines.
Our program prepares future writers for further study in literature and writing and provides the background necessary if they choose careers in writing. Literary Arts majors must earn at least 6 credits from approved offerings, meet the school's "extended-hours" requirement, and complete a senior project. Students in this program must earn at least 6 credits from the following course offerings: Foundations of Writing I & II, Advanced Non-fiction, Print/Electronic Media,
Advanced Poetry Writing, Advanced Fiction Writing, Playwriting, Writing
Internship.
