Nancy Underwood, teaches Visual Arts for PCA. A 2003 National Board Certified visual arts teacher, Mrs. Underwood comes from a
background in theater design. Originally from California, she holds a BA in Theater from
the University of California, Riverside. Mrs. Underwood remained there as staff costume
designer for 6 years. A move to the East Coast found her attending graduate school at
NYU School of the Arts, and later as lecturer and staff costumer for Amherst College in
Massachusetts. Finishing her MFA in Design at the University of Massachusetts, Mrs.
Underwood joined the faculty at the University of South Carolina’s Theatre Department,
where she remained for 7 years until the birth of her son, John. Richland Northeast High
School now keeps her busy teaching for the Fine Arts Department, offering a variety of
arts courses such as Art I, Photography, Art of Film and Media Arts. Mrs. Underwood
has been with the Cavalier family for ten years and is one of a number of faculty
